Welcome to the Montana Dahlia Society website!

We appreciate your interest in our society and welcome you to our site. This website is run by the society for all those interested in learning about growing and showing dahlias in beautiful Big Sky country.

Membership

The Montana Dahlia Society is one of approximately 75 societies affiliated with the American Dahlia Society, dedicated to the research and development of the Dahlia. As a member of MDS you will receive a copy of our monthly Newsletter “Tana Tuber Topics” as well as receive the assistance of experienced Dahlia growers who are very willing to share information. The society usually meets at 1:30 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month.

Keep up with the latest happenings and activities. Membership is on a calendar year basis with dues payable by December 10th of each year. American Dahlia Society dues are offered at a reduced rate if paid with MDS dues.

American Dahlia Society - Dahlia Genome Project

The ADS has raised $34,569 to meet its initial goal of $30,000 to fund a “low pass” genome sequence.

A genome is all the inheritable traits of an organism.  Sequencing dahlia genes could give scientists valuable information as to the evolution of the dahlia – what genetic material has changed to make the dahlia unique to other flowers in the Asteraceae (or Compositae) family.  It could also benefit the Dahlia Virus Research Project by identifying where genetic pathways may have mutated or been lost due to hybridization and where genetic viral defenses may be found.

Dahlia Virus Testing is Now Available

You can now have your dahlias tested for virus by Dr. Hanu Pappu at Washington State University. Complete Instructions and a Sample Submission Form are available for download on the American Dahlia Society website:
